Founder, MaxFitness Marathon Training

Rudy Christian caught the sports bug while in the military, where he designed physical fitness and weight control programs for National Guard soldiers. Transferring this tenacity, discipline and perseverance to sports training, he later served as Head Coach(Blue/Green groups) of the ChicagoFit Marathon Training Program. Training under Tri Masters’ Bernard Lyles, he prepared for and completed his first triathlon in 2001. Subsequently, he started the MaxFitness Marathon and Triathlon Training Program. He has trained more than 2000 athletes for endurance events, and has completed 38 marathons and 5 Iron-distance triathlons, with the most recent being Ironman Canada 2010. He was a member of the 2003 and 2004 Degree Ironman Team, an advisor to the Nokia Adventure Racing Team (2005), and has served on Nike-sponsored community challenge marathon teams in 2004,2005, 2006, and 2007 He has helped to raise nearly half a million dollars for Chicago area charities. Previous sponsors also include New Balance and Gatorade. During his coaching stint he has recommended two athletes foe appearance in Runner’s World magazine feature articles.  In 2005 he threw out the first pitch in the last regular season before the Chicago White Sox went to the World Series.

His formal education includes a bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees from the University of Illinois system, and a fellowship from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also attended the USA Track and Field Level I instructors course, and currently serves as the vice chair for Long Distance Running for the Illinois affiliate of USA Track and Field.

Professionally, he has worked with clinical trials and pharmaceutical companies for nearly 20 years. He has earned awards from the American Heart Association, been interviewed by ABCNews Nightline (1996), noted in the Wall Street Journal (2006), pictured in Crain’s Chicago business (2007), the UIC School of Public Health (2012) and earned an Illinois Governor’s appointment to the Illinois Council on Health, Fitness, and Sport on which he continues to serve. He has given scientific presentations in the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. He has contributed to papers in scientific papers including the New England Journal of Medicine. He has given more than 100 speeches for the American heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and American Cancer Society.

He continues to support the Tri-Masters youth Sports initiative , a program seeking to introduce structured physical activity into the lives of Chicago-area youth. Most recently, he was included in Swarthmore’s Who’s Who, 2009. His core program, MaxFitness Marathon Training has trained adults since 2001 and plans to expand to a second location this year.
